At the appointed hour, Commodore Jennifer Mulder (granddaughter) Hribal (daughter) Turner (spouse) called the race to order and gave instructions.

The day began with a nice breeze but it soon died out (after all, this is Michigan) about two minutes into the regatta. All the boats were in the grip of a calm afternoon and some sailors even reported being pushed BACKWARDS made by the waves of nearby powerboats.

The Large Boats made it around the buoy off the barn while the small boats languished in the calm. As the Large Boats neared the second mark (near Shear Pin Point), the new Commodore, a.k.a BillsLakeGirl, made a critical and positive decision. She enlisted the aid of Kelly and Tara (nee Madsen) and their jet ski to make a liquid refreshment run to the sailors and to advise the small boaters to round the first buoy and NOT proceed to the 2nd mark but instead to finish the race by directly returning to the start/finish line (thus reducing the possibility of sunstroke, etc.) The Large Boats by this time had rounded the 2nd mark and were returning to the finish.

The trophy getters are as follows: Move cursor over words.

1st: DALE MULDER (Capt. Underpants) and grandson BEN MULDER. Dale, guiding ALMOST CHROME, was in the lead most of the contest when his grandson asked: "How will we get the #1 pennant off the sail?" (Guess Dale didn't want to deal with that thorny issue).
